Armoire
When I bought my house in July Belinda had offered me an armoire that she was looking to get rid of. After many nonstarters, I finally got by her house to pick it up this weekend.
First of all, it’s huge. 21″ x 40″ x 80″. It easily weighs 400 pounds. To be honest, I kept discounting her warning about how unwieldy this thing was supposed to be. I did, however, stop by Harbor Freight on the way to pick David up and bought a furniture dolly to help with the move. Without it, we never would have been able to move the damn thing.
The plan was to put it upstairs in my bedroom, but even before we got it in the truck David and I were both wondering if that was even physically possible. All the way home we joked about ripping off the roof and craning the thing in.
When we arrived at my house, I backed up on to the yard and right against the porch. We didn’t have any trouble getting it in, but once inside we saw that there was no way we could get up to the bedroom. Once we got it up on the landing there’d be no way to turn it. The other thought was to move it into my office, but I don’t think that’d be possible either without pulling out the framing around the door. Right now it sits in the living room where my entertainment center used to be. It’s so tall that it covers the bottom third of the heating system return.
I spoke to Belinda this morning and asked if she’d be mad if I got rid of it already. She apologized left and right for sticking me with the monster and told me I could even sell it if I wanted and keep the money myself.
So, if you’re interested in a rather nice — yet large — piece of Thomasville furniture let me know.
