Geeky Wreath

Taking my cue from this post at Make, I made a geeked-out Christmas wreath this evening… finally a use for all those miscellaneous computer parts I can’t seem to get rid of.

Geek Wreath

It has a little bit of everything on it and was a lot of fun. I’m especially pleased with the bow I made out of the ribbon cables.

Happy Christmahanukwanzaka!

  1. Comments are still slightly borked for the time being. I can now get all the comment text, but any paragraph formatting is lost. Please comment as normal, and I'll keep working to get things straightened out.
  1. Very, ummmmmmm....interesting. Remember the wreaths our mothers used to make with IBM punch cards, folded, glued to a circle, spraypainted, and glittered? There was also one made with the waste foil from the strip where the milk bottle caps were punched out.
  2. How FUN! The bow totally impressed me too!
  3. Nice! This made me laugh.
  4. To attach all the trinkets and gadgets I hot glued some florist's wire to the back of each piece and then twisted the wire around the wreath. I didn't think about the fact that the front of my house gets pretty warm during the morning hours. I took off to do some running this morning. When I came home, I found a few of the pieces had fallen off... they'd gotten too warm and remelted the glue. I'll fix it this afternoon and find a place for it inside. So, if you're planning to do something like this for your door, you should first consider how much heat that door has to endure.
  5. That bow is brilliant!
  6. Great job!
  7. Thanks, guys. It was fun to make. Hopefully it'll survive a bit better up on my balcony railing.
  8. What a great idea! I have a wreath that was looking tired. Maybe I'll do this for my husband's office!
