I like wildlife photography, but even the better stuff doesn’t often move me. Haha.nu featured some photographs today by a photographer named Steve Bloom that are probably the best I’ve ever seen.
The Snow Monkey shots are incredible but everything on his site is nearly perfect.

Tripod, Part II
The new tripod legs that I bought on eBay arrived this afternoon, which is appropriate because this I also happened to get the winning bid in on a ball head. I expect that will get here next Wednesday or so.
First off, I’m really impressed with the look of the thing. It just oozes cool (and [...]
Magic Legs
Not quite titanium alloy, but carbon fiber and magnesium…
[image title="magic-legs" size="276x399" id="208" align="center" ]
I managed to sneak in and win these new tripod legs this evening. My current tripod situation is rather dismal. I’ve been schlepping around a beat up Velbon cheapo tripod for a few years, and it’s so far from being [...]
Batteries, the Third
My new batteries arrived along with the three new chargers I ordered last week. Note to self: pay better attention to the mAh rating next time. I ended up with 1500 mAh batteries instead of what I mistakenly convinced myself would be 1800 mAh.
For those who don’t know, think of mAh (milliamp hour) [...]
More Battery Thoughts
I’ve been thinking more about my battery issues from two weeks ago and another thing that’s bugged me is that it just takes too long to get my inventory of batteries recharged once I’ve drained them all. I’d already thought of buying a couple of extra chargers, but I didn’t like the idea of [...]
Lessons Learned: Photographing Grand Canyon
I learned a couple of things while standing against the railing at Yavapai Point.
Batteries and cold weather do not mix
Cold air + high humidity = camera as moisture magnet
I’m not sure how to fix problem two, but I saw a clever trick on ChaseJarvis.com (via The Strobist) to help with number one. Chase uses [...]
Camera Buyer Beware
When it comes to camera equipment, I try my best to do research on a potential new supplier before I make my purchase. Just as the internet makes scamming easy, it also makes discovering the scammer a lot easier too.
The typical camera scam goes like this: you see an ad for a camera stating [...]
A Rookie Mistake
Sheesh. I was all excited to receive my new camera lens yesterday. I had it shipped to the office so I could get hold of it as soon as it arrived. When I heard the UPS guy hit the back door, I ran to the back to open my new toy only to discover a [...]
Door Panel Removal On A 2000 F-150
I couldn’t find decent instructions on how to remove a door panel on my truck, so I figured I’d contribute to the shared knowledge that is the Internet and post an instruction set with pictures based on my experience this morning. It’s a pretty simple process actually, once you know where the screws are. [...]
