Wow.
The Xbox and related accessories arrived Thursday sometime, so when I got home from work, I set it up and commenced kicking some serious skateboarder ass. Let me just say: I’m impressed.
When I first set it up, I started out using the the included composite cables. The colors weren’t what I expected. Mostly green and blue (I know realize I might have had something plugged in wrong). Also, no matter what I did I couldn’t get any sound to come through the TV. I didn’t start off with the HDMI cable because I only had one (the one I ordered specific for the console hadn’t arrived yet). After just a few minutes, I unplugged the cable from DVD player and moved it to the Xbox. Now… SOUND and COLOR!
It’s really amazing how slick the graphics look.
Thursday night I played a little more than an hour of Tony Hawk Project 8 before taking a break. It’s easy to get motion sickness from all the jerking around I do when I play.
Friday I took off work early and played a little more THP8 before moving on to Bioshock.
Again… Wow.
I had pretty much given up on FPS games around Quake 3. I just couldn’t hang. But Bioshock is more than just kill them all and let God sort them out. Again, the graphics are insane. The story seems really cool so far, but I’m having a bit of trouble grasping the intricacies of the modern first person shooter. I went back to THP8 for most of the day and moved myself up in the rankings about thirty places before calling it a night.
Saturday I went to the office for the day to be available to the bookkeeper should she need me. It was a long day… 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. I did at least get a good lot of work done.
Saturday night was more THP8. I finally started getting where I felt more confidence in my ability to use the controls. What little gaming experience I’ve had in the past has all been PC-based so the transition from controlling via mouse and keyboard to handheld controller has been my Achilles Heel.
Sunday I finally made an attempt at Halo 3.
Have I said Wow yet?
